Pilotage Act 1987

The Pilotage Act 1987 is a key piece of UK legislation that governs the provision and regulation of marine pilotage services within the UK. It sets out the framework under which Competent Harbour Authorities (CHAs) manage pilotage in their respective areas, aiming to ensure safe navigation and the protection of life, property, and the environment in UK waters.
The overarching aim of the Pilotage Act 1987 is to enhance maritime safety by ensuring that vessels entering or leaving UK ports are guided by individuals with the appropriate local knowledge and expertise.
