Are you an experienced maritime professional ready to take on a pivotal role in one of the UK’s busiest ports? Associated British Ports is seeking a skilled Marine Pilot to join our team in Southampton, ensuring the safe and efficient pilotage of vessels within our Competent Harbour Authority Area.
Key Responsibilities:
-Safely pilot vessels from embarkation to disembarkation within the Port of Southampton CHA.
-Compile vessel passage plans in line with Harbour Authority guidelines and Directions, Southampton Byelaws, and berth guidelines.
-Maintain and develop a comprehensive and up to date knowledge of all navigational matters within the Pilotage area.
-Develop and maintain a knowledge and understanding of the Marine Safety Management Systems, emergency procedures / plans & operational procedures in use
-Participate in the training and assessment of Pilots and Trainee Pilots, including assessments and examinations.
-Prepare and submit incident, accident and other reports as required, within allocated timeframes.
-Provide professional advice to the Harbour Master on local navigational and other port marine issues.
-Act as Duty Pilot according to the duty roster.
Essential Requirements:
-High level of skill in communication.
-Relevant seagoing experience.
-Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Desirable:
-STCW II/2 Certificate of Competency – Master (Unlimited).
-At least 2 years’ seagoing experience in command.
-Geographical knowledge of the Port of Southampton.
-Previous pilotage experience or PEC holder.

Marine Officer (Pilot) – Barry, South Wales, UK

Description
The Marine Officer (Pilot) will pilot vessels under compulsory pilotage within the ABP South Wales regional ports and River Usk Competent Harbour Authority areas (and Non Compulsory Pilotage of vessels if requested). The Pilot will also make available to the Ship’s Captain all relevant and pertinent information, based upon their comprehensive knowledge of the pilotage area.
This role provides a great work/life balance, South Wales Pilots are rostered to work patterns of 11 days on and 6 days off plus annual leave. Please note that from 1st January 2026 a new work pattern of 12 days on, 12 days off (includes AL entitlement) has been agreed.
Applicants should hold a valid seafarer’s qualification and possess relevant sea going experience. BLPS provide pilotage services to Belfast Harbour, Port of Larne, and independent jetties within Belfast Lough, N. Ireland. We undertake duties onboard a diverse range of vessel types and sizes, including project movements for the offshore industry and ship repair / drydocking at the Harland & Wolff shipyards.
The ideal candidate will meet the following minimum entry criteria:

The Wisbech Port Authority team at Fenland District Council are looking for a Marine Pilot to undertake pilotage to our two Ports at Wisbech and Port Sutton Bridge.
The role requires the successful candidate to take responsibility for the safe pilotage of a variety of commercial vessels along the port limits of Wisbech and Port Sutton Bridge or within the local pilotage district- any time during the night or day complying with all current legislation – being available for immediate call out 24 hrs a day 365 days per year, once trained, on a rostered basis.
As well as pilotage, you will be required to provide support to the Harbour Master and the operations of the Marine Services team in supporting the review and safe implementation of the Port Authority’s Marine Safety Management system and accompanying systems of work. You will manage the safe movement of vessels within the harbour limits and ensure documentation and certification is in line with the Port Marine Safety Code.
Other duties include tug towing, dredging, bed levelling, buoy laying, maintenance of navigational aids, search and rescue, patrols, towing of leisure craft and hydrographic surveying so a background of working in commercial craft maintenance and repair and sound seagoing experience is essential. Local knowledge of the waters of the Wash is highly desirable.
You will be ‘On Call’ for emergency response when required. STCW II/2 Master/Chief Mate 3000gt or more, Certificate of Competence or equivalent with extensive pilotage experience.
An ability to work flexibly and during unsocial hours particularly around spring tides including weekends is essential. This is a small, dedicated team where a flexible approach to working to achieve our objectives is important.
