#Dangerousladders – The Master could not be convinced that this was an unsafe rigging.

The ladder was attached by the use of 2 small chains around the step. The Master could not be convinced that this was an unsafe rigging.

Report from a UKMPA member:
The ladder was attached by the use of 2 small chains around the step.   When the pilot raised this with the Master he was less than impressed to hear of the alleged  deficiency, as in his eyes it was okay after having had 2 port state inspections in Sweden in the last 12 months regarding Pilot Boarding arrangements.  The Master showed the pilot the latest inspection report from Goteborg which mentioned a deficiency however it was not regarding the chain, but other quite reasonable errors e.g. ‘’pilot gate open but not secured with catch so could swing shut’ & ‘1 stanchion missing fixing pin to deck’
It is assumed by the pilot that the ladder was rigged to pass inspection but there is of course no way of proving that. It is also surprising to hear that Swedish PSC would pass this if seen.
The Master could not be convinced by the pilot that this was an unsafe rigging.
